Otti Slams Julius Abure Over Continued Sale of Labour Party Nomination Forms Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has strongly criticised the former National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, for proceeding with the sale of governorship nomination forms despite opposition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsisting court rulings. The criticism follows a viral photograph showing Abure presenting a Labour Party nomination form to a former National Vice Chairman of the party, Ceekay Igara, in the company of other party members. Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ukoha Ukoha, Governor Otti questioned Abure’s continued claim to leadership of the party.  Ukoha insisted that both judicial pronouncements and INEC’s position have effectively sidelined Abure, describing his actions as being in contempt of court. “I think Abure is in a better position to explain the grounds on which he is still parading himself after a Federal High...

Drama at Ex-Deputy Governors’ Forum as Shaibu, Omobayo Clash Over Edo Representation

Mild chaos erupted at the fourth annual national conference of the Former Deputy Governors’ Forum on Tuesday when reinstated Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu publicly challenged the introduction of his successor, Omobayo Godwins, as the state’s representative.

The tension flared immediately after Omobayo was announced as Edo’s “former deputy governor” at the Abuja event, prompting Shaibu to interrupt and object vehemently.

Both men briefly argued over legitimacy, turning the gathering into a momentary spectacle.

Speaking afterward, Shaibu branded the introduction “improper,” insisting Omobayo was “never elected but brought in through the backdoor.” He cited a recent court judgment declaring his April 2024 impeachment illegal and affirming that the office was never vacant.

Omobayo, in response, denied self-appointment and called the clash “almost a national disgrace,” adding that he had strived to remain composed.

Shaibu was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly in April 2024 and replaced by Omobayo. However, a Federal High Court later nullified the impeachment as unconstitutional and ordered his reinstatement.
