 ‘Empty barrels’ – Otti dismisses Uzor Kalu, Orji, Ikpeazu opposition gang-up Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged Abians to disregard recent remarks by some leaders of the opposition in the state. Governor Otti who was speaking on Saturday at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuoriehi, Umuahia North LGA, during the dedication of the church building, said that those who are gathering against him were the same people that failed to develop the state in the past. Otti was reacting to an alliance formed against his re-election by former Abia governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu. The governor slammed the opposition members for pursuing personal interest above the collective development of Abia, declaring that every gathering they are making against him would collapse.  Kukah has changed politically, owes Buhari apology – Fr Kelvin


A missionary Catholic priest working in Gambia, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has said that Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese has become “politically different” from the outspoken cleric he used to be.

Ugwu stated this in a Facebook post on Saturday while reacting to the recent controversy surrounding Bishop Kukah’s comments on alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

According to him, many Nigerians have been cautious in reacting to Kukah’s remarks because of the bishop’s long-standing reputation, but his recent stance shows a shift from his previous principles.

“The truth of the matter is that we are tiptoeing on this issue because the person involved is Bishop Kukah. I bet you, if it were another person, I know what we would have written,” Ugwu wrote.

“As much as I love Bishop Kukah and have been greatly inspired by him over the years, I can say that having followed him for a long time now and having taken time to analyse his ‘then’ and his ‘now’, the Kukah we have now is a different one politically.”

The priest accused Bishop Kukah of failing to apply the same standards of criticism to the current administration that he used against late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“All the things he criticised the previous government for, we are experiencing the worst of them under the present administration. If he wants to start giving this administration some understanding and sympathy, I think the best place to begin is to apologise to others for not giving them the same understanding, especially Buhari.

“And even more is the fact that this government came into power in one of the most rigged elections in Nigeria, with INEC going back on their words on the use of BVAS. To me, it doesn’t really matter what Tinubu does in office, unless we have to suddenly admit that the end now justifies the means,” Ugwu said.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
