Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Vatican's Swiss Guard unveils new uniform

The Vatican’s Swiss Guard, the world’s smallest standing army tasked with protecting the pope, has unveiled a new formal uniform.

On Thursday, the corps introduced a non-ceremonial outfit designed for official events outside the Vatican, such as embassy receptions and formal dinners. The uniform features a yellow-and-white striped belt and gold buttons, drawing inspiration from the Swiss Guard’s attire prior to the 1970s, when members began wearing suits for such occasions. Officials say the updated look reinforces their identity as a distinct military corps.

Visitors will still see the Swiss Guard in their iconic red, yellow, and blue Renaissance-style ceremonial uniforms while stationed at the Apostolic Palace. Founded in 1506, the Swiss Guard’s mission remains to protect the pope, his residence, and cardinals during papal conclaves.

This Saturday, more than two dozen new recruits from Swiss towns and villages will take their oath during a Vatican ceremony. The annual swearing-in, normally held in May, was delayed this year following the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th pontiff.
