Clintons called to testify in Jeffrey Epstein investigation

House Republicans have issued subpoenas for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee regarding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear Dec. 17, with Hillary Clinton to follow a day later, according to the committee. Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said the hearings aim to provide transparency and accountability for Epstein’s victims and the American public.

Comer initially requested the Clintons’ testimonies in August, but their attorney proposed submitting a written statement instead. Comer said the Clintons possess relevant information due to their personal relationships with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Legal experts have speculated the Clintons could invoke executive privilege, though their personal connections would likely fall outside that protection. Meanwhile, Maxwell has invoked her Fifth Amendment rights and declined to testify, despite being subpoenaed, and remains imprisoned following a 2022 child-sex-trafficking conviction.

Separately, the FBI and local police are guarding the Justice Department’s Epstein investigation files after Mark Epstein, Jeffrey’s brother, claimed the documents were being altered to remove references to Republicans. Enhanced security measures have been implemented at the Central Records facility in Winchester, Virginia.

In related news, flight records show former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and his wife, Elisa New, visited Epstein’s Little Saint James island in the U.S. Virgin Islands during a 2005 honeymoon stop. Summers’ spokesperson said the visit was brief and occurred before Epstein’s first arrest. The trip included a meeting with Maxwell and Epstein’s personal pilot, and records show they flew on Epstein’s private plane. Both Summers and New have since expressed regret over their association with Epstein.
