 A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.  OPERATION PEACE SHIELD: 6 BRIGADE TROOPS RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIM DURING ONGOING OPERATIONS


Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim following sustained, robust, and aggressive search and rescue operations within the Brigade Area of Responsibility.


On 27 January 2026, troops deployed at Dogon Gawa, Taraba State, while conducting ongoing search and rescue operations, sighted and rescued a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his captors. The victim was later identified as Mr Ghali.


Further investigations revealed that Mr Ghali and another victim, Mr Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on 11 January 2026 at Gbise Village, Mbayonga of Benue State. During the abduction, their driver was sadly killed by the kidnappers.


Following his rescue, Mr Ghali was immediately debriefed, provided with necessary medical care, and subsequently reunited with his family.


Speaking on the success of the operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their tenacity, courage, and professionalism. He assured that operations in the area would be further intensified to ensure the rescue of the remaining victim and the arrest of the perpetrators.


Brigadier General Uwa also urged members of the public to continue to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.


This successful rescue underscores the gallantry, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army to the protection of lives and property. The Brigade remains resolute in its determination to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace within the region.
