Kaduna Scholarship Board Begins First Enrollment, Verification Exercise At Nursing College

The Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board on Tuesday, 28th January, 2026, commenced its inaugural scholarship enrollment and verification exercise (Batch A, Phase 1) at the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

The exercise, which is the first of its kind at the College, forms part of His Excellency Governor Uba Sani’s special intervention scholarship scheme aimed at supporting Kaduna State students.

The exercise, led by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Professor Yahya Saleh Ibrahim, began with a courtesy visit to the management of the institution, where the team met with the Provost, Dr. Yusuf Bello.

The visit was aimed at outlining the objectives and procedures of the scholarship scheme, which include identification, screening, enrollment, verification and award of scholarships to vulnerable and underprivileged indigenes of Kaduna State, in line with the directive of Governor Uba Sani.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Saleh explained that the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on students from disadvantaged backgrounds and to expand access to education across the state.

He noted that the College of Nursing and Midwifery represents a critical sector in Kaduna’s healthcare development.

He disclosed that Governor Uba Sani has approved the phased employment of 10,000 nurses and other medical personnel in the state, adding that more than 1,500 have already been employed.

According to him, this development underscores the need to support students in medical and allied institutions to meet the growing demand for healthcare services nationwide.

Professor Saleh further stated that the current administration is the only one in the state to provide stipends to 400-level medical students while guaranteeing automatic employment for qualified indigenes of Kaduna State in that field.

He urged students to uphold high ethical standards, discipline and integrity in their training, stressing the importance of professionalism, honesty and dedication in the nursing profession.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Dr. Yusuf Bello, expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for significantly reducing tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions, a move he said has eased the financial pressure on parents and guardians.

Dr. Bello also commended Professor Saleh for being the first Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board to personally visit the College of Nursing and Midwifery to award scholarships.

He noted that the scholarship process had been properly followed through to the verification and enrollment stages, while provisions were also made for eligible students who were unable to apply online to participate in the exercise.

He assured that the college community would reciprocate the support extended by the state government, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the institution, parents and students to make effective use of the opportunity.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary on Scholarship Matters, Hajiya Haulat Madu Umar, said Governor Uba Sani had directed that the scholarship programme must prioritize underprivileged and vulnerable students.

She encouraged beneficiaries to maintain good morals and contribute positively to society after graduation.
