Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  UK MINISTRY OF JUSTICE DELEGATION UNDERTAKES LEARNING VISIT TO  LAGOS MULTI-DOOR COURTHOUSE


The Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC) recently hosted a delegation from the United Kingdom Ministry of Justice on a learning visit aimed at fostering knowledge exchange in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and court-connected mediation.


The UK delegation, comprising Sorrel Evans, Justice, Home Affairs AttachĆ© and Christina Soper, Head of Unit, Rule of Law, Ministry of Justice, was received by the former Director/CEO of the LMDC, Mrs. Achere Cole, alongside members of the Management Team. She reaffirmed the LMDC’s commitment to continuous learning, institutional excellence, and international collaboration.


The LMDC Management Team provided an overview of their respective roles and responsibilities within the institution. Mrs Olubusola Ojo, the former Registrar and Head of Operations, led detailed discussions on the LMDC's operations, highlighting its institutional framework, case management processes, and the guiding principles underpinning its success.


Earlier, the delegation outlined the purpose of the visit: to gain insight into the LMDC’s innovative Multi-Door Courthouse model and to explore best practices in access to justice and dispute resolution. 


The visit underscored the shared commitment of both jurisdictions to strengthening the rule of law and advancing the use of ADR mechanisms in the delivery of justice.
