 New Orleans sheriff, jail finance chief indicted on dozens of charges tied to 10-inmate escape  A New Orleans sheriff and the jail’s chief financial officer have been indicted on dozens of charges connected to the escape of 10 inmates from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in May 2025. A special grand jury returned a 30-count indictment against Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson and jail CFO Bianka Brown. All of Hutson’s charges are felonies, while 20 of Brown’s charges are also felonies. Hutson’s bond was set at $300,000, and Brown’s at $200,000. Authorities allege failures in oversight and compliance contributed to the breakout. “While Sheriff Hutson did not personally open the doors of the jail for the escapees, her refusal to comply with basic legal requirements and to take even minimal precautions in the discharge of her duties directly contributed to and enabled the escape,” Attorney General Liz Murrill said. A 23-YEAR-OLD MAN TOOK THE LIFE OF A 42-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WITH A SCREW DRIVER, BUT SHE DID NOT GO DOWN EASY. (PHOTO).

 She fought hard for her life until the very end.

A 23-year-old man took the life of a 42-year-old woman with a screw driver, but she did not go down easy.


Police in Fort Wayne, Indiana, were called to the Arbors of South Towne Square apartments on April 27th at approximately 3 p.m. Neighbors had called 911 after hearing someone screaming, "Stop" inside the apartment along with sounds of a serious struggle.


When officers approached the apartment, they discovered the door was barricaded shut. 


Upon forcing entry, officers were met with a shocking scene. Kevin Smith (pictured below) and Erica Eggman were both lying on the floor, bloodied and nude. 


As medical treatment was administered, it was discovered that Erica had multiple puncture wounds on her body, with at least 14 serious puncture wounds from the screwdriver in her head and face. 


Officers found a Phillips screw driver they believed was used in the attack.


Sadly, Erica passed away as a result of those injuries.  


However, after seeing the condition of Kevin Smith, it became obvious that Erica had fought with every ounce of strength in her. Erica did put her k*ller in the hospital. He was treated for life-threatening injuries and released into custody. 


Video footage from the previous night showed the two entering the apartment together, and no one else entered after. 


Kevin Smith was taken to the hospital for his injuries before being booked into jail on the charge of homicide.


Our thoughts are with Erica's family and friends at this difficult time.
