‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has dismissed reports linking one of its staff members to a viral video alleging inappropriate conduct with a student, describing the claims as false and misleading.

‎In a press release issued on July 16, by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, the university said the individual featured in the widely circulated video is not a staff member of the institution and that the incident did not occur anywhere within the university.

‎According to the statement, the university carried out a thorough verification following the circulation of the video and accompanying online reports. "It has been established that the incident did not happen anywhere at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The man in question seen in the viral video is also not a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. For the records, no staff or student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University is connected in any way to the said incident," the statement read.

‎The university expressed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct among its staff and students. It also emphasized its zero-tolerance policy against the exploitation of students in any form or under any guise.

‎UNIZIK expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation and disinformation fueled by the rush to publish unverified stories on social media and online platforms, noting that such practices damage the reputation of institutions and individuals.

‎The management urged members of the public, media organizations and digital platforms to refrain from circulating unverified information and to promptly retract and correct misleading publications.

‎It further encouraged journalists to verify facts with the appropriate authorities before publication, reaffirming the university's open-door policy on information and communication.
