The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has continued to reaffirm its commitment to the protection of lives, property, and seamless movement of persons and goods across the State with the successful management of two separate incidents in the early hours of Tuesday.
In the first incident, the Agency’s Alpha Eagle Response Team was mobilised at 12:57 a.m. to Bishop Bus Stop, inward Mushin, following a report of a truck breakdown that obstructed vehicular movement. On arrival, responders met a truck that had become immobile due to a mechanical fault and had tilted across the carriageway.
Acting swiftly, the Eagle team immediately diverted oncoming traffic to prevent secondary incidents while awaiting the deployment of the Agency’s heavy-duty recovery asset, Super Metro. There was no loss of life or injury recorded. At approximately 2:08 a.m., the truck was successfully recovered and moved to a nearby layby, restoring free flow of traffic along the corridor. The team thereafter concluded operations and returned to base.
Barely two hours later, at 3:38 a.m., another distress call was received concerning a fire outbreak at Adawama Estate, Raji Rasaki Bus Stop, Amuwo Odofin. The Alpha Eagle Team proceeded to the scene with an estimated arrival time of 20 minutes.
Preliminary assessment revealed that a warehouse storing solar batteries and inverters was engulfed in flames. The cause of the outbreak is yet to be determined.
In line with global best practice for multi-agency coordination, LASEMA’s responders worked in synergy with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos Response Unit (LRU) Fire.
The joint operation focused on containment, suppression, and the prevention of spread to adjoining structures.
Again, no casualties were recorded. As of the latest update, collaborative efforts are ongoing to fully extinguish the fire and safeguard surrounding properties.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, expressed appreciation to all responders for their professionalism, speed, and inter-agency cooperation, which ensured that both situations were managed without escalation or loss of life.
He also commended members of the public for providing timely information and for complying with safety directives at both scenes.
LASEMA reiterates its resolve to maintain a 24-hour state of readiness and urges residents to continue to observe safety protocols, especially regarding vehicle maintenance and the storage of combustible materials.
Members of the public are advised to report emergencies promptly through the Agency’s toll-free lines to enable immediate response.
LASEMA remains dedicated to building a resilient Lagos where emergencies are managed with speed, expertise, and compassion in line with international standards.
