 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.                                   East Baton Rouge parish,Louisiana Coroner Dr William Beau Clark,confirmed to the Associated press that musician Percy Sledge,died early tuesday morning.The news was also confirmed to ABC News by his agent of 35 years Steve Green,who said that the singer died after a long battle with cancer.He was best known for recording the 1966 classic ''When a man loves a woman'',that made number one hit.He was born in Leighton,Alabama on November 25,1941.His first recording took him from hospital orderly to a long touring career averaging 100 performances a year and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2005.He released his last album ''The Gospel of Percy Sledge'',in 2013.More photos below.

                             According to sources,at least 9 people have been confirmed dead today in an attack in Somalia's capital of Mogadishu.The attackers stormed the Ministry of Higher Education after one of the attackers detonated a vehicle at the gate of the ministry compound,opening the way for gunmen to enter.A tweet from the Editor of Somalia Newsroom says ''Once again Al-shabaab utilizes its suicide car bombs siege tactic in Mogadishu Education Ministry attack in Somalia.Police have also secured the building according to Capt Mohamed Hussen,a senior police officer.The attack is believed to have been carried out by Al-shabaab.African union forces were recently deployed to the building.The militant group Al-shabaab has admitted responsibility for the attack''.One more picture below.                                   ...

                             According to the Independent National Electoral Commission {INEC}returning officer,Dr Mariam Quadri,declared Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot,of the All Progressives Congress {APC} the winner of Surulere constituency 1.She said ''That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC,having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes,is hereby declared winner and is returned elected''.Desmond Elliot of the APC scored 23,141 votes while Mr Bayo Smith of the PDP came second with 12,546 votes.Mrs Mosunmola Sangodara Rotimi of the PDP,won Surulere constituency 2.Mean while checkout Demond Elliot fans blessing him with wine.One more picture below.

31 PEOPLE DEAD,9 INJURED IN THE WORST EVER BUS CRASH IN MOROCCO YESTERDAY.

                  According to sources,31 people were killed and nine seriously injured near the southern Moroccan city of Tan-Tan,when a bus colided with a truck yesterday friday.Most of the victims were killed by the fire that broke out on the bus straight after the crash.Among the victims are school pupils and young athletes,who were heading back home to Laayoune after they took part in a national sports event,organized by the Moroccan ministry of youth and sports in Bouznika,30km away from Morrocco's capital Rabat.Among the victims are also personalities representing the local branch of the Moroccan ministry of youth and sports.The bus was heading from the capital Rabat to Laayoune in Western Sahara.One more photo below.
