 PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR, IBRAHIM GALADIMA President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the passing of Kano-born ace sports administrator and community leader Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima.  Galadima died on Saturday at the age of 78.  A statement by Special Advisor to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, states that the deceased had served the Kano State Government and the Federal Government in various capacities, including as chairman of the Kano State Sports Council and a two-time commissioner, before holding various positions in sports administration at the federal level.  Galadima also served as president of the defunct Nigeria Football Association (NFA), the precursor of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), between 2002 and 2006.  Amnesty International has strongly criticised the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over its recent “formal notice to broadcasters,” describing the directive as an unlawful and repressive move aimed at silencing journalists and curtailing media freedom in Nigeria. The directive, dated April 17, 2026, targets political programming, including anchors of current affairs and political shows. Amnesty International said it imposes “unduly restrictive and invasive controls” on media operations. In a statement, the human rights organisation declared that the NBC “has no power or right to dictate how journalists carry out their professional duties.” It warned that the notice appears designed to pressure media houses into self-censorship. “The bizarre notice issued by NBC is an attempt to pressure journalists and media organisations into silence,” Amnesty said. The cocaine consignment with a gross weight of 2.80 kilograms was intercepted on Thursday 9th April 2026 by NDLEA operatives attached to the export shed of the Lagos airport while two cargo agents involved in the export bid: Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33, and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39, were swiftly arrested.  Drama in Edo state as family almost cancel burial over missing eye of their deceased  There was drama in Edo state last Friday after a family almost ordered the cancellation of their loved ones funeral after discovering her eyes were missing. According to MC Oviakpo, a friend of the husband of the deceased, the family had visited the morgue to collect her corpse on the day of the funeral only to discover that her eyes were missing. Upon inquiry, the morturary attendant claimed that the eye dissolved after some chemicals were used to wash her corpse. The family of the deceased however dismissed this explanation and insisted that the husband of the deceased must provide her body in the complete form he got married to her, meaning her eyes must be in place before the funeral can proceed.  FG TO DEVELOP NEW POLICY ON STRENGTHENING PALM OIL PRODUCTION FOR SELF SUFFICIENCY The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has announced that the government is developing a new policy aimed at strengthening palm oil production and reducing Nigeria’s over-dependence on the importation of the product. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, stated that the initiative is expected to generate $500 million in annual import savings, revive the palm oil sub-sector, and promote food sovereignty in the country. In a message delivered at a workshop organised by the ministry in collaboration with key stakeholders in the palm oil industry, the Minister said the proposed policy and programme would provide institutional coordination and policy support for agriculture-linked manufacturing and large-scale plantation development across the project’s operational areas.
