 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Amnesty International Urges Nigerian Government To Rescue 37 Kaduna Abductees After 104 Days In Captivity Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian government to urgently intensify efforts to rescue 37 people abducted by gunmen from Ariko village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, 104 days after they were taken captive. In a statement, the human rights organization expressed concern over the prolonged captivity of the victims, warning that they face serious risks, including torture, starvation, amputation, rape, and other forms of abuse if urgent action is not taken. The victims were abducted on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, when gunmen reportedly attacked churches in Ariko village.  The attack claimed the lives of at least seven people, while 37 others mostly women and children were taken away by the assailants. The ceremony, which took place on Thursday, 16th July 2026, at Ikeja Junior Grammar School, Bolade- Oshodi, Ikeja, marks the commencement of a new era in education data management as Lagos State transitions from the traditional manual method of conducting the Annual School Census to a fully digital system.  The initiative complies with the directive of the Minister of Education, mandating all states of the federation to adopt the National Education Management Information System for the collection and management of education data.  TROOPS OF OPERATION WHIRL STROKE STRIKE HEAVY BLOW AT TERRORIST HIDEOUT RECOVER WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION RESCUE THREE KIDNAP VICTIMS IN OFFENSIVE OPERATION Troops of Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in conjunction with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have neutralised two suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during a successful intelligence led offensive operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation, which commenced at about 0300 hours on 16 July and concluded on 17 July 2026, saw troops advance through Takum in Taraba State to Tse Togo and Utenge communities located across River Yooyo at Orter Camp, where suspected terrorists were operating. During the operation, troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, neutralising two of them.
