  NIGERIA/CAMEROON TO LEVERAGE TRADE MODERNIZATION FOR SEAMLESS CROSS-BORDER TRADE    Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon are deepening ties to leverage the Trade Modernisation Project for seamless cross-border trade and shared prosperity in the region and across Africa.   The synergy was highlighted at a joint Nigeria-Cameroon One-Stop Border Post Assessment Custom Engagement held at the Ekok-Mfum Border in Cross River State. Maureenleo Ajom reports that  the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi and the Director General Cameroon Custom, Edwin Fongod  brainstorm on joint    coordinated trans border management for Intra African Trade.

 Family seeks justice after two men kidnapped and murdered along Dendron Road A family is appealing for justice after two men were allegedly kidnapped along the R521 Dendron Road and later found dead with gunshot wounds in August 2025. The victims have been identified by the family as 21-year-old Choene Goven Sekobela and 37-year-old Leonard Shumba. According to the family, the two men were travelling along the R521 Dendron Road on 19 August 2025 when they were allegedly kidnapped. Their bodies were reportedly discovered later that day near Kushke Road by a woman who was returning from work. The woman allegedly alerted the police, prompting an investigation. The family said they were later notified that the men’s vehicle had been found at Ga-Semenya, outside Polokwane, with the stock they had reportedly purchased still inside the vehicle.  This man was arrested after his niece's best friend was discovered crying in a roadside ditch. The 12-year-old survivor's statement to authorities was chilling.  A North Carolina woman was taken aback when she saw a young girl in a ditch on her drive home after work on Sunday, August 16th. As she took in the startling scene... a crying little girl in a ditch, in an oversized t-shirt, wearing no shoes, covered in scratches, she knew she was stopping to help.  As she pulled to stop, she asked if the child was okay. When the child responded that she had been kidnapped, the woman couldn't believe her ears.  The Good Samaritan had the girl immediately get into the safety of her vehicle. The driver locked the doors and she drove the child straight to the Erwin police department.  Around 60 migrants arrive by boat at Spain tourist beach as holidaymakers gather belongings and leave shoreline Around 60 migrants arrived by boat at Cala del Barco, a tourist beach near Spain’s La Manga Club, with several jumping into the water and making their way to shore. The vessel approached the Costa Cálida cove at about 1pm on Wednesday before people onboard began disembarking. Some beachgoers gathered their belongings and moved away from the shoreline, while others were seen calling police. The migrants then moved from the beach towards nearby towns. Cala del Barco is a small sandy cove beside the La Manga Club resort, which is known for its beachfront facilities, golf course, football training complex and luxury hotel. The resort has previously hosted celebrities including David Beckham, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek and Robbie Williams.  IGBO-JAH MURDER: DISMISSED POLICE INSPECTOR ARRAIGNED, REMANDED Police Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji, a former member of the Anti-Cultism Police Squad in Enugu, has been arraigned over the alleged murder of popular ogene musician Okezie Chikezie Nwamba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah. Ozonwanji was accused of fatally shooting the musician with an AK-47 at the police squad premises in Enugu on October 25, 2024. His arraignment followed an internal police trial and approval of his dismissal from the force. The court ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Enugu State Attorney-General, while Ozonwanji was remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre.

 OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS RESCUE 10 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KEBBI, ZAMFARA AND SOKOTO STATES Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have sustained ongoing efforts to protect lives and secure communities across the North West, rescuing 10 civilians in separate operations conducted in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States. On 19 August 2026, troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State encountered a terrorist ambush. The troops responded swiftly and decisively, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray. During the encounter, 5 civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families, while 2 motorcycles abandoned by the terrorists were recovered. Earlier, on 18 August 2026, troops acting on intelligence regarding 3 kidnapped victims conducted a search and rescue operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
