 NAF GETS FIRST-EVER SERVING PROFESSOR, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO R&D AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE In a landmark achievement for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and a major boost to its research and development (R&D) endeavours, the Governing Council of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), has approved the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Osichinaka Chiedu Ubadike as Professor of Aerospace Engineering. This makes him the first-ever serving officer in the NAF to be conferred the rank of Professor. Air Vice Marshal Ubadike, an accomplished scholar and military professional, holds a PhD and Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and Aerospace Vehicle Design from the esteemed Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He also possesses 3 other Masters degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), with a First-Class Bachelor of Electrical Electronics Engineering degree from NDA. gays: A new law awaits Jonathan's signature              Amnesty international on friday urged Nigerian's president Goodluck Jonathan to reject a bill that would outlaw gay marriage and crackdown on gay rights after law makers approved a final version for his signature.The key elements of Nigeria's anti-homosexuality legislation,which also criminalises public displays of affection between same sex couples,had cleared the upper and lower houses pf parliament in may.Aster Van Kregten for Amnesty international,and Africa Deputy Director says ''if the Nigerian president signs the bill into law it would make Nigeria one of the least tolerant societies in the world and have catastrophic consequences for the country.Nigeria is seen as being less susceptible to pressure from western governments because,as Africa's top oil producer,it receives very little foreign aidUnder Nigeria's bill,anyone who enters into a same sex marriage or civil union can be sentenced to 14 years in prison.It also says ''any person who operates or participates in gay clubs,societies and organisations or directly or indirectly makes a public show of same sex amorous relationship commits an offence and shall be liable to a term of 10 years of imprisonment''.
