The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki has assured the 150 Libyan returnees currently undergoing training of his administration’s commitment to equip them with the requisite skills for a better future.
Obaseki, who gave the assurance after a review of the ongoing training programme for the returnees at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in Benin City, urged them to look forward to a future in which they will be employers of labour.
“With the training and starter-packs we will give you, you will be able to start your own business and grow it into a big business that will employ people. All you need to do is to be diligent and aspire to any heights you desire.
“Information and Communication Technology is the game changer in the world and I urge you to deploy the technology in scaling up your businesses,” the governor said.
He advised the returnees not to dwell on their past mistakes, as it is only human to make mistakes. “Learn from your mistakes, discourage other youths from embarking on risky and illegal trips to Europe and make the best of the training and other forms of support we are giving you today,” he said.
The 10-day training was flagged off by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, last week.
Speaking at the flag off, Hon. Osaigbovo said “The government is committed to ensuring that the returnees become self-reliant, and urged them to take the training seriously as they will be empowered after the programme. The commissioner said it was part of the government’s effort in engaging youths in productive venture and to stem illegal migration.
