 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ZAMFARA GOVERNOR APPOINTS GUMMI AS ACTING CHAIRMAN FOR THE STATE SECURITY TRUST FUND. (PHOTO).


 Governor Dauda Lawal appoints acting Chairman for the State Security trust fund Board.


Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has approved the appointment of Brigadier General Abdulkadir Abubakar Gummi rtd as the Acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Zamfara State Security Trust Fund.


A Statement by the  Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada and issued to newsmen by his Senior Special Assistant on media Ahmad Yudu says the appointment takes immediate effect.


The statement says the appointee has an illustrious career in the Nigerian Army, rising through the ranks to attain Brigadier General before his retirement.


“Based on his credentials, His Excellency is confident that under Brig. Gen. Gummi's leadership, the Security Trust Fund Board of Trustees, will realize its central mission of mobilizing the necessary resources to strengthen the security architecture and provide the required support to our security forces to effectively prosecute the fight against banditry and related crimes across the state.


According to the statement, Governor Dauda lawal extends his best wishes to Brig. Gen. Abubakar Gummi (rtd) in his new role and urges all relevant stakeholders to fully support him in realizing the goals of the Board. 


It maintains that, the Board is expected to now begin delivering on its mandate to strengthen the security framework and support security forces in the fight against banditry and other criminalities in all parts of Zamfara State"


The SSG thanked the outgoing Chairman of the Board for his service to the state and wished him success in his future endeavors.
