  Abakaliki, Ebonyi State - In a shocking move, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the arrest of six commissioners and the suspension of the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, over alleged involvement in a breach of contract for the construction of 140 housing units for Izzo and Amaze communities. The affected commissioners, who were declared wanted by the state government before their arrest, are: - Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education) - Victor Chukwu (Environment) - Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism) - Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters) - Moses Ekuma (Health) - Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring) According to the Chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus, the governor took the action due to the slow pace of work on the project, which was intended to be completed in time for his two-year anniversary in office. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TO INVESTIGATE BOARDING FACILITIES IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS


Following the very disturbing video where students were fed with unpalatable and innutrious meals at Presbyterian Senior Science College, Ididep, I paid an unscheduled visit to the school. I have directed a comprehensive investigation into the state of boarding facilities in the school and the other 25 boarding secondary schools across the state. This review, which will focus on hostels, dining halls, recreation areas, menu, kitchen, and sanitary facilities, will be jointly overseen by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the State Secondary Education Board. Consequently, I have also directed  the immediate suspension of the Principal of the school, Dr. Nse Sunday Umoh pending the outcome of the investigation. 


Despite the fact that the free education policy of the state government, covers tuition fees only and not boarding fees, the welfare and dignity of all students, especially those in public schools, remain a priority of the Umo Eno-led administration. We appeal to parents who have already been greatly relieved of the burden of tuition fees to undertake basic parental responsibilities to support their children in secondary schools. 


The Ministry is committed to ensuring that all public school facilities meet irreducible minimum standards that uphold the well-being of both learners and staff.


We urge the public to remain patient while this investigation lasts. The Governor, Pastor Umo Eno remains unwavering in his commitment to education, as outlined in the ARISE Agenda.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
