Federal Government Lifts Five-Year Ban on Mining in Zamfara State

The Federal Government has officially lifted the ban on mining activities in Zamfara State, ending a five-year restriction that had significantly impacted the region's mining industry.

The ban, which was imposed in 2019 due to widespread insecurity and criminal activities linked to illegal mining, has been a source of frustration for local miners and businesses.

In a statement issued today, the government cited improvements in security and the implementation of strict regulatory measures as key factors in the decision to lift the ban.

"The safety and well-being of citizens remain our top priority, but we are confident that with the enhanced security framework in place, responsible mining can now resume in the state," a government spokesperson stated.

Local miners and business owners have welcomed the move, seeing it as a significant step toward reviving the state's economy. The ban’s removal is expected to create job opportunities, boost local businesses, and help stabilize the region’s economy.

The government has emphasized that mining activities will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, with severe penalties for illegal operations.

This development marks a significant turning point for Zamfara State, which has faced years of economic and security challenges.
