 NDC STATEMENT ON COURT RULING Our attention has been drawn to a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja this morning, wherein His Lordship, Honourable Justice Isah Dashen, gave a ruling on an application filed by an unregistered association known as Peace Movement Party. The public knows that by December 2025, the Nigeria Democratic Congress  as an association complained of INEC’s refusal to register us as a political party, whereupon we proceeded to the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court upheld our constitutional right to freedom of association under the Constitution and compelled INEC to register us, which INEC did. Since then, we have started political activities, embarked on the registration of members, held congresses from ward to national levels, held conventions, and concluded primaries to all offices following INEC’s timetable.  Police Arrest Alleged Kidnap Kingpin in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended 30-year-old Nwile Bete, a suspected kidnap leader, during an operation in Port Harcourt. The operation also resulted in the rescue of a 10-year-old boy who had been kidnapped by Bete.


Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. Bete allegedly abducted the boy on November 25 and demanded a ransom of N5 million for his release. The boy's mother reported the abduction, prompting the police's Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take action.


Based on credible intelligence, officers tracked Bete to Rumuekeni School Road in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested. After his capture, Bete confessed to the crime and led police to Sogho village in the Khana area, where the boy was found unharmed and reunited with his family.


Iringe-Koko confirmed that investigations are underway to locate Bete’s accomplices, who remain at large. The suspect will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.


This arrest marks a significant step in the police’s efforts to combat crime in Rivers State.
