The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has stressed the importance of correct and safe weapon handling for all personnel, warning that any slightest safety breach can have devastating consequences, resulting in casualties.
Commandant Maku stated this during a refresher course organised by the command to upscale its personnel's marksmanship and weapon handling skills.
This is contained in a release made available to Newsmen at Onitsha by SC Okadigbo Edwin, Head Media and Tactical Ops, for state Commandant.
According to him, the training was aimed to achieve the overall goals of the Commandant General,Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi to have well-positioned, professional, gallant, and skilled civil defenders.
"This goal of this training is to align with the idea of providing refresher courses to enhance the skills and knowledge of personnel in weapon handling.
"The command's effort to provide this training demonstrates its commitment to developing a highly skilled and effective team" he said.
He urged participants to put the knowledge and skills acquired during the training into practice, emphasizing that it would enable them to effectively tackle and mitigate security threats within their respective areas of responsibility.
Maku stated that the exercise demonstrated the command's commitment to building on its past successes in personnel training, with a focus on enhancing their proficiency in firearms handling and marksmanship.
The one- day refresher course exposed participants to drills on firing positions, basic use of firearms, and fundamental principles of marksmanship among others.
