 Sultan of Sokoto Urges Moon Sighting for Eid el-Fitr The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims nationwide to observe the new moon of Shawwal 1446AH on Saturday, March 29, 2025. In a statement issued on Friday by the Waziri ofFIT Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, the moon sighting will determine the end of Ramadan and the date for Eid el-Fitr celebrations. March 29 marks the 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH, making it the earliest possible date for sighting the new moon. The Sultan urged anyone who sights the moon to report their observations using the designated phone numbers provided. Muslims are encouraged to participate in the moon sighting, as it plays a crucial role in determining the official date for Eid. The Sultanate Council will announce the final decision based on verified reports.

 Tinubu saved Fubara from impeachment – Obidike


Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara should be grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for saving him from impeachment, and All Progressives Chieftain, Hon Obidike Chukwuebuka, has stated. 

He said Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State saved Fubara from the shame.

Reacting to the development on Wednesday, Obidike said: “While details of the alleged impeachment threat are scarce, President Tinubu’s involvement has significantly shaped Rivers State’s political landscape. 

“His commitment to promoting peace and stability was evident in a recent meeting with Governor Fubara and stakeholders, emphasizing unity and cooperation.

“As the situation unfolds, Governor Fubara’s fate remains closely tied to President Tinubu’s influence, with potential far-reaching implications for the state’s politics.”

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
