Sudan war: Hundreds of civilians displaced in latest South Kordofan's violence A total of 570 civilians were displaced from Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan, over a three-day period due to deteriorating security conditions, the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) said. The organisation said in a statement that its tracking teams recorded the displacement of 570 people from Kadugli between 8 and 10 January, as insecurity escalated in the city. The displaced families headed toward areas in White Nile State, southern Sudan. The situation in Kadugli remains “tense and volatile,” the agency said, adding that its teams are continuing to closely monitor developments on the ground.  Nigerian Pastor Abel Damina Sparks Controversy, Claims Church Offerings and Tithes Are Used by Men, Not God

Pastor Abel Damina of Abel Damina Ministries International has ignited widespread debate with his recent claims that tithes and offerings collected in churches do not belong to God but are used by men. The controversial statements, made during a Sunday service sermon, were captured in a viral video clip circulating online.

In the sermon, Damina asserted that “no offering goes to heaven” and that “all the offerings we give to God go to men,” emphasizing that these funds are spent by humans rather than divinely utilized. He challenged the common pastoral narrative that encourages tithing by promising spiritual or material blessings, such as the “windows of heaven” opening, calling such claims false. “The doors have been open since Jesus rose from the dead,” he declared.

Damina further alleged that many preachers who demand tithes from their congregations do not tithe themselves. “They collect from everyone but don’t give to anyone. I was there; I know how it works,” he said, drawing from his own experiences in the ministry.

The pastor’s remarks have stirred mixed reactions, with some praising his boldness in addressing church finances, while others criticize him for challenging long-held religious practices. The controversy has sparked discussions on social media and among religious communities about the transparency and use of church contributions in Nigeria.
