 HERDSMEN KILL DRIVER ON HUMANITARIAN MISSION IN TARABA STATE  10th January, 2026      A commercial driver, Mr. Amishe Omeny, has been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen while on a humanitarian visit to a displaced community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. The deceased, from Tse Amise after Tseem, was reportedly attacked on Friday within Chanchanji Ward as he travelled to Adokia, a displaced settlement located after Tseem Sabe. He was said to have gone to the area to assist villagers with the transportation of foodstuffs. Sources in the community told Benue Info-pedia, that Omeny volunteered his services as a driver to support residents affected by ongoing insecurity, when he was ambushed and killed by the assailants. The killing has sparked grief and outrage among residents, who described the incident as tragic and senseless. MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE IN LIMPOPO HAVE ARRESTED 792 SUSPECTS AND RECOVERED FOUR FIREARMS DURING A HIGH-DENSITY OPERATION SHANELA CARRIED OUT ACROSS ALL FIVE DISTRICTS OF THE PROVINCE.(PHOTOS).


 Members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo have arrested 792 suspects and recovered four firearms during a high-density Operation Shanela carried out across all five districts of the province.


The week-long operation started on Monday, 17 November 2025, and continued until Sunday, 23 November 2025. It was conducted in collaboration with various law enforcement partners and community stakeholders to clamp down on crime and ensure public safety.


The arrests were made for a wide range of offenses, including illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapons, illegal dealing in liquor, drug-related crimes, rape, assault (GBH and common), burglary, robbery, drunk driving, and immigration violations.

 • 5 Robbery with aggravating circumstances

 • 55 Assault GBH

 • 4 Firearms

 • 47 Rounds of ammunition

 • 1.7 g Heroin

 • 0.265 kg Dagga

 • 0.123 g Cocaine

 • 0.014 g Nyaope


Police confirmed that the arrested suspects have already started appearing before various magistrates’ courts across Limpopo as investigations continue.
