In line with ongoing efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration towards improved parking management, the General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area (L.G.A), Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda.
Speaking during the meeting, Mrs Adelabu explained that the visit was aimed at sensitising the leadership of the Local Government about the activities of LASPA in ensuring proper parking in the State, informing them of the ongoing expansion plans, and introducing the On-Street Parking Scheme, under which motorists would have to pay for parking.
She further informed stakeholders that the On-Street Parking Scheme, would commence within the year 2026 as a pilot scheme in designated Local Government Areas of the State including Ikeja L.G.A.
Briefing the Chairman and the management team of the L.G.A further, the General Manager explained the effects of LASPA in ensuring proper parking in the State, noting that the responsibility for parking management was originally under the purview of the Local Government Areas in Lagos, but was ceded to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
She highlighted some of the benefits of the On-Street Parking scheme, including improved parking management, enhanced traffic flow, and job creation, particularly for residents within the selected areas.
Mrs. Adelabu averred that Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas stand to benefit significantly from LASPA’s initiatives in parking management, depending on their level of support and collaboration in implementing the On-Street Parking Scheme and other strategies of the Authority.
She reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to collaboration, stating that LASPA remains open to suggestions and inputs from local government authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative and the continued development of the state.
In his response, the Chairman, Ikeja L.G.A expressed appreciation for the visit and commended LASPA for its efforts in improving parking management across Lagos. He expressed the support of the Local Government Area for effective parking management and suggested the need for more sensitisation to educate residents on proper parking.
