 PRESS RELEASE OYO POLICE ARREST SIX SUSPECTED COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY DEALERS, RECOVER €8,900 SUSPECTED FAKE EURO NOTES The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to the possession, circulation and alleged production of counterfeit Euro currency, following a successful patrol operation by operatives of the Command. On 1 September 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., operatives on township patrol around the Labo–Wesley area intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes, with a total face value of €8,900. The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50, who was found in possession of the suspected counterfeit currency; Oni Oladapo, 67, who is alleged to have supplied the money; Adebayo Saheed, 52, who was the second passenger on the motorcycle; and Hammed Karemu, 25, the motorcycle rider.  INEC VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE: SOKOTO GOVERNMENT DECLARES FRIDAY 24TH 2026 WORK-FREE DAY 


The Sokoto State Government has declared Friday, 24th July, 2026 a work-free day to enable Civil Servants of voting age who have not yet registered to participate in the ongoing Voter registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).


Governor Ahmed Aliyu urges Civil Servants who have not registered to take advantage of the work-free day to obtain their PVCs, to enable them exercise their civic responsibility in the forthcoming general elections.


A statement by his Director General Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa says, the Governor restates his Administration's commitment to ensuring that Civil Servants in the State are given every opportunity to participate in the National assignments and exercise their Civic rights.


The statement further enjoins its citizens yet to register or have attained the stipulated age for Voter registration, to take advantage of the two-weeks extension of the exercise to register and obtain their PVCs.


The two-weeks extension of the ongoing Voter registration exercise ends Sunday, 26th July, 2026.
