 Kenya orders closure of small-scale businesses owned by foreigners Kenyan President William Ruto ordered authorities to begin shutting down small businesses operated by foreign nationals from Monday, Sept. 7, saying hawking and small-scale retail should be reserved for Kenyans. Speaking to micro, small and medium enterprise traders at State House in Nairobi, Ruto said Kenya welcomes foreign investment but argued that foreigners should not compete with citizens in businesses requiring little capital. "From next week, all traders doing those small businesses should close them," Ruto said, Anadolu Agency reported. "We have made efforts to improve the economy, we have not improved investor confidence for hawkers to come to Kenya," he added. ‘Prioritising Kenyan citizens’ Ruto said the government would push ahead with legislation aimed at defining areas of economic activity that should prioritise Kenyan citizens.

Nigerian Afrobeats star Zlatan Ibile has sparked widespread praise online after firmly distancing himself from a political group during a recent award ceremony. The incident occurred during a homecoming-style event held at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where the singer was being honored for his achievements. While presenting a certificate on stage, the President of the Students' Union Government (SUG) made the unexpected move of inviting a representative of the "City Boy Movement" to join them.


At the mention of the group a prominent youth mobilization wing backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's 2027 re-election agenda Zlatan immediately grabbed the microphone, interrupting the SUG President. The singer pointedly explained to the crowd that the gathering was not organized for political groups and emphasized that partisan politics had no place in the event.
