SANWO-OLU INSPECTS VANDALISED BRIDGE POLE ALONG LAGOS-BADAGRY EXPRESSWAY
•Governor reassures residents about bridge safety
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, carried out an on-the-spot assessment of a vandalised bridge pole at Vin-Niger, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
He assured Lagos residents that the structural integrity of the bridge had not been compromised, emphasising that the bridge and the work carried out on it remained safe.
The Governor, however, disclosed that some fittings used to secure the bridge had been excavated and taken away by vandals.
Governor Sanwo-Olu warned that the Lagos State Government would hunt down those responsible for the act, including those involved in buying and selling stolen public infrastructure materials.
He also cautioned that the government would not relent in bringing perpetrators to justice, regardless of their status or background.
The Governor further described the vandalism of public assets as shameful and unacceptable, especially at a time when the government was investing heavily in infrastructure across the state.
He expressed concern over the ongoing vandalism of infrastructure in Festac Town, citing the destruction of drainage slabs and the theft of iron rods on Second and Seventh Avenues.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure by reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
“When you see something, you should say something. Government is not going to be there 24/7. People should know that they also have a responsibility for themselves and for the government to speak out,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended the Lagos State Police Command, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch and members of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), for their intervention and responsiveness to the incident of the vandalised portion of the bridge.
He stated that the inspection was also part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to clean up the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor and safeguard public infrastructure.
While addressing residents, traders, and commuters during his inspection of Alaba Rago and Orile, the Governor noted that significant progress had been made in clearing the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor.
He assured Lagos residents that his administration remains committed to protecting public assets, ensuring the safety of road users, and maintaining law and order across the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged that his government would continue to collaborate with security agencies to keep Lagos safe and secure while providing opportunities for law-abiding residents
