A California man was on an anniversary cruise with his wife and three young sons when he jumped from a great height off the ship. No one has any clue why he did this.
56-year-old Thomas Gigler and his 48-year-old wife, Michelle, were enjoying a cruise aboard the Carnival Panorama with their three young sons. The trip had been planned to celebrate the couple's anniversary, and by all accounts (bar one), the family had a blast.
The cruise was wrapping up, and the family had just spent their last full day together on the ship the day of September 17th when an incident that no one can explain caused a shift from paradise to pain.
Thomas, a grounded family man who had worked the same job as a computer programmer for 24 years, would do something so out of character that everyone who ever knew him is in shocked disbelief. His family believes some sort of unknown factor has to be at play.
As the cruise was on its last leg from Mexico to Long Beach, Thomas left his wife and three young sons and made his way to the ships 11th deck. He then proceeded to jump from the ship, disappearing into the water, far below, where he has still not been found. Thomas would have fallen 100 feet before hitting the water.
Unfortunately, Thomas wasn't reported missing until the following morning when his family couldn't find him. They assumed he was asleep in bed. After searching everywhere, a ship-wide announcement/page went out over the PA system at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Staff began the arduous process of reviewing security footage until they uncovered the awful reason for Thomas's disappearance.
There has been one fellow passenger who has publicly claimed that Thomas had spoken of marital problems at the ship's bar the night before he jumped.
However, his family has dismissed the claims as someone attempting to insert themselves into a dramatic happening. They firmly contend the couple had a solid marriage.
Despite rejecting the claims of the fellow traveler, family members have no clue at all what could have driven Thomas to jump from the ship.
They believe some unseen factor is at play or perhaps something happened in his head, and he was not in his right mind.
They do note that there has been zero history of mental illness in the past, making the unusual actions in his last moments all the more mysterious.
There has been a large search effort to recover Thomas, but he has not been recovered at this time.
