A MAN ABDUCTED A 10-YEAR-OLD TENNESSEE GIRL FROM THE SAFETY OF HER BEDROOM BY REMOVING A WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER UNIT, AND DRAGGING HER OUTSIDE WITH HIM. HE ATTEMPTED TO RAPE HER... BUT SHE ESCAPED. (PHOTO).

 Important Update- Yesterday, a man abducted a 10-year-old Tennessee girl from the safety of her bedroom by removing a window air conditioner unit, and dragging her outside with him. He attempted to rape her... but she escaped. 


We are happy to update that he has been arrested. However, his charges paint a very heartbreaking picture. 


After a terrifying abduction in the early morning hours yesterday, the perpetrator was on the run and completely unidentified. The little girl could only relay that he was "skinny" or slim. She was able to recall pertinent details of the attack, despite the trauma. 


Authorities wanted the dangerous perpetrator caught quickly. 


In a statement by the TBI, they explained, "TBI agents joined investigators from the Newbern Police Department, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and its task force members in investigating a kidnapping that occurred early Wednesday morning in Newbern. Through the course of the investigation, agents learned that the 10-year-old victim was forcibly taken from her home, threatened, and assaulted. 


During the abduction, the child was able to briefly escape before the suspect caught up with her again. In that moment of escape, she sought help from a nearby neighbor, whose quick actions helped save her life. The unknown abductor fled the area on foot, and law enforcement was immediately notified."


DNA evidence was immediately collected and Rapid DNA processing was utilized. 


Officials got an immediate hit on the DNA.


Based on the Rapid DNA results, information was developed resulting in the Wednesday night arrest of 30-year-old Steven Devonte Harris. He is also a resident of Newbern, Tennessee. 


Steven Harris is being charged with two counts of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Burglary and Attempted R*** of a Chi/d. He was booked into the Dyer County Jail.
