 Anambra Police Arraign Six Over Child Abuse, Sexual Offences and Unlawful Abortion


The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday, 23 September 2026, arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations of defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault and the unlawful procurement of an abortion involving minors.


The suspects were brought to court after investigations into the respective cases.


They are:


- Chinedu Chiekwu, of Umuoli Village, who is accused of defiling an 11-year-old child on 6 September 2026.

- Sunday Anele, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl that allegedly resulted in pregnancy.

- Ugochukwu Okereke, accused of luring a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulting her.

- Ebuka Nwachukwu, accused of luring a six-year-old child into his room at Okpoko and sexually abusing her.

- Ogechi Ofoma, of Awada, Obosi, accused of using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma.

- Obianuju Okafor, accused of unlawfully procuring an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.


The command also issued an update on a widely circulated video showing a 36-year-old woman allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.


Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said investigators have completed their work and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal action. The suspect remains in police custody pending further proceedings.
