Three Okada riders in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area(LGA) of Anambra State, have received motorcycles, while 22 others were awarded ₦100,000 each at the community’s 2026 New Yam Festival.
The empowerment programme, which injected ₦2.2 million in cash support into the community, formed a major highlight of the festival held on Aug. 28, at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Bob Vincent Orji, Ezeugoato II of Ezinifite.
The motorcycle beneficiaries were Chibuzo Umeojiege of Aku Zone, Chukwuebuka Umezinwa of Amaekwulu Zone and Azubuike Nwokedike of Ifite Zone emerged through a ballot system, with each zone producing one beneficiary.
Chief Sunday Agwa of St. Global sponsored the cash support for the 22 other participants, giving the festival a strong community development and livelihood support dimension.
Beyond celebrating the harvest, the festival brought together traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders and indigenes to promote cultural heritage, strengthen community bonds and advance local development.
The President General of Ezinifite Improvement Union, Nze Jude Ezeobiagwu, said the gathering offered an opportunity for indigenes to reconnect, celebrate their heritage and discuss issues affecting the community.
Looking ahead, the Elite Social Club of Ezinifite announced an agriculture focused empowerment programme for the 2027 festival, with a car promised for the farmer who records the highest farm produce.
The initiative is expected to encourage farming, youth participation and food production, reinforcing the festival’s growing role as a platform for culture, livelihoods and community development.
