  Hit-and-Run Driver Kills 12-Year-Old Student in Lagos, Injures Sister A yet-to-be-identified driver struck two schoolgirls along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Monday, leaving one dead and the other injured. According to Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, the driver was speeding on the BRT lane near Ogundare bus stop when he hit the 12- and 15-year-old siblings. The victims were rushed to Orile Agege General Hospital, where the younger sister succumbed to her injuries. The surviving sibling was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further treatment. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare M. Jimoh, has assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations.  Highway Construction Collapse in South Korea Kills Four, Injures Six At least four people lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries on Tuesday following a structural collapse at a highway construction site in Anseong, approximately 70 km south of Seoul. The incident occurred at 9:49 a.m. (0049 GMT) when five 50-meter concrete structures supporting a bridge collapsed sequentially after being lifted into place by a crane. Anseong fire official Ko Kyung-man confirmed that the deceased included two Chinese nationals, while five of the injured—one of whom is also Chinese—were in critical condition. “They were installing a bridge deck when it gave way, causing all 10 workers to fall from both sides,” Ko explained.  JAMB Registers 13,018 Candidates in Jigawa as Students Face Registration Challenges The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has registered 13,018 candidates for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) in Jigawa State. JAMB’s Public Relations Officer, Mukarram Bello Adamu, stated that the registration was conducted across 12 approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, including the JAMB head office in Dutse, Federal University Dutse, Binyamin Usman Polytechnic, and Sule Lamido University, among others. Nationwide, a total of 1,290,715 candidates have been registered. However, many candidates in Jigawa faced difficulties, with some spending two to three days waiting due to the limited number of centers. Some reported sleeping in mosques and on the streets while trying to complete their registration.  Nigeria Seeks EU Approval for Non-Hazardous Waste Imports Nigeria has joined 23 other non-OECD countries in requesting approval from the European Commission to import non-hazardous waste from the EU. This aligns with the EU’s new Waste Shipments Regulation, which aims to tighten waste export rules and will ban plastic waste exports by November 2026. To qualify, applicant countries must prove they can manage waste in an environmentally responsible manner. The EU will assess these requests and finalize a list of approved countries by November 2026. From May 2027, only listed countries will be allowed to import waste from the EU. Other applicants include India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Morocco. Countries that missed the February 2025 deadline can still apply, but approval before the first list is finalized is not guaranteed.
