‘Empty barrels’ – Otti dismisses Uzor Kalu, Orji, Ikpeazu opposition gang-up Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged Abians to disregard recent remarks by some leaders of the opposition in the state. Governor Otti who was speaking on Saturday at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuoriehi, Umuahia North LGA, during the dedication of the church building, said that those who are gathering against him were the same people that failed to develop the state in the past. Otti was reacting to an alliance formed against his re-election by former Abia governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu. The governor slammed the opposition members for pursuing personal interest above the collective development of Abia, declaring that every gathering they are making against him would collapse.  2027 Election Results Have Been Written, Democracy Is Gone — Sowore

Abuja, Nigeria — Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed grave concerns about the future of democracy in Nigeria, claiming that the 2027 general election results have already been pre-determined.

Speaking in a video statement released on his official social media platforms, Sowore accused the political elite of orchestrating the erosion of democratic institutions and manipulating electoral processes to maintain their grip on power.

“They have already written the results of the 2027 elections,” Sowore declared. “There is no democracy left. What we have now is a fraudulent system parading itself as democratic rule.”

Sowore, a consistent critic of successive Nigerian governments, alleged that key institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the judiciary, and security agencies are being co-opted into what he described as a “grand conspiracy” to suppress genuine political opposition and voter choice.

The outspoken activist also pointed to the increasing wave of political violence, shrinking civic space, and targeted persecution of dissenting voices as signs that Nigeria is on a dangerous trajectory.

“They are not planning elections; they are planning coronations,” he said. “The Nigerian people must resist this and demand a truly democratic process where their votes count.”

Sowore’s comments have ignited a flurry of reactions online, with some Nigerians echoing his concerns over the integrity of the electoral system, while others accused him of making incendiary claims without concrete evidence.

INEC has not responded to Sowore’s allegations, but it has previously assured the public of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections.

Sowore, who ran in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, has been a prominent voice in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement. Despite repeated arrests and restrictions by security agencies, he remains an unwavering advocate for systemic political reform.

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, his comments are likely to intensify debates around electoral credibility and the state of Nigeria’s democracy.
