 Governor Alex Otti Highlights How Kidnappers, Bandits Were Dislodged from Abia Communities in Abia Third Anniversary Speech Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has disclosed that his administration inherited a security crisis in which kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal gangs held several communities hostage before being dislodged through sustained operations. Speaking during his third anniversary celebration at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Friday, Governor Otti revealed that bandits had established camps inside forests across the state, from where they launched attacks on innocent residents, causing panic and displacement. “Security was a major challenge in the state three years ago.  Abia Governor’s National Assembly Liaison Officer Defects to APC


The National Assembly Liaison Officer to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Mr. Iheanyi Chinasa (popularly known as Dogo), has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).


The defection, which signals growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, was announced on Sunday in a statement signed by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.


Chinasa aligned with the APC during a strategic meeting of party stakeholders held in Owerri, convened by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to strengthen the party’s structure in the South-East region.


The move is considered significant because Chinasa held a strategic position in the Labour Party-led Abia State Government, serving as the link between the state and federal lawmakers at the National Assembly.


He had previously contested against Benjamin Kalu for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 general elections and was known to have remained critical of the Deputy Speaker.


Welcoming Chinasa into the APC fold, Kalu described the defection as a positive development that foreshadows more high-profile entrants into the party in the coming months.


“Dogo ran election with me in Bende for House of Representatives and was later appointed by the governor as National Assembly Liaison Officer. He is from Bende and from Ikwu Isii, my own section of the constituency and today, he has come to join our Party (APC),” Kalu said.


The Deputy Speaker assured that Chinasa would be warmly received, adding: “I am sure he will feel welcome seeing all these great men and women here.”


Kalu urged APC members and aspirants to remain focused and hardworking, stating that increased commitment would attract more people to the party.


“So, I want to encourage everybody especially the aspirants to be strong willed and courageous and to keep pushing. The harder you work, the more people will want to join APC,” he said.


As at the time of filing this report, Chinasa is yet to publicly state the reasons for his defection from the Labour Party to the APC.
