 Anambra Police Arraign Six Over Child Abuse, Sexual Offences and Unlawful Abortion The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday, 23 September 2026, arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations of defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault and the unlawful procurement of an abortion involving minors. The suspects were brought to court after investigations into the respective cases. They are: - Chinedu Chiekwu, of Umuoli Village, who is accused of defiling an 11-year-old child on 6 September 2026. - Sunday Anele, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl that allegedly resulted in pregnancy. - Ugochukwu Okereke, accused of luring a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulting her. - Ebuka Nwachukwu, accused of luring a six-year-old child into his room at Okpoko and sexually abusing her. - Ogechi Ofoma, of Awada, Obosi, accused of using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her ...

 LASCOPA, FCCPC TO HOST JOINT STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT ON PRICE TAGGING, PRODUCT LABELLING, RETURN/REFUND POLICIES


The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), in collaboration with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), is set to convene a landmark Joint Stakeholder Engagement aimed at addressing issues of price opacity, inadequate product labelling, and non-compliance with return and refund policies in the marketplace.


The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., announced the initiative recently at the Agency's headquarters in Ikeja, describing it as the first stakeholder engagement of its kind under the collaborative framework established between both consumer protection agencies.


The engagement, themed "Price Tagging, Minimum Labelling Requirements and Return/Refund: The Implications of Non-Regulatory Compliance," will bring together key stakeholders, including the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Retail Council of Nigeria (RCN), National Association of Supermarket Operators, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), consumer advocacy groups, and relevant regulatory agencies to deliberate on compliance obligations, enforcement standards, and consumer protection strategies.


According to Solebo, the South-West Zonal Coordinator of the FCCPC, Dr. (Mrs.) Olubunmi Dorcas Otti, is expected to represent the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, at the engagement.


Solebo encouraged consumers across Lagos State to submit questions, observations, and concerns ahead of the meeting through lascopapau@gmail.com for consideration during the discussions.


He further stated that key agenda items will include regulatory requirements for price display, minimum product labelling standards, best practices for product information disclosure, and effective mechanisms for addressing consumer complaints relating to defective products, returns, exchanges, and refund claims.


Solebo noted that the forum forms part of the broader commitment of both agencies to strengthen consumer rights protection, promote transparency and accountability in commercial transactions, and foster fair market practices across Lagos State.


He disclosed that the stakeholder engagement will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa CBD, Ikeja, Lagos.


The General Manager urged all invited stakeholders to participate actively in the engagement as the agencies work collectively towards creating a more transparent, informed, and consumer-friendly marketplace.
