TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. Today thursday,the European Union launched a fund for Africa with an initial $2 billion to combat the poverty and conflict driving migration to Europe,but African leaders said more fundamental economic change was need.The trust fund was unveiled at a summit with African leaders in Malta,consists largely of 1.8 billion euros {$1.93 billion } put up by the European Commission,the EU executive,from the bloc's central budget.The Commission wants member states to match that,but few have pledged much so far.The new money,which adds to somee 20 billion euros annually donated to Africa by the EU and its 28 states,will finance projects ranging from training and small business grants and combating food shortages to schemes directly aimed at cutting emigration and tackling radicalization and other violence.
