Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has decried the drift of Nigeria from global democratic tenets, saying Nigerian leaders needed to act fast in order to correct the trend.
He spoke today at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during a courtesy call on him by a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
Governor Ortom expressed concern that if past Nigerian leaders had condoned the high level of impunity and lawlessness being experienced today, the present crop of leaders wouldn't have had the opportunity to rule over an indivisible entity called Nigeria.
He charged Nigerians to continue to pray for the desired leadership change, pointing out that the hearts of kings belong to God and He could change them for good.
The Governor stated that based on the antecedents and leadership acumen of Dr. Dankwambo, he was better positioned to provide the desired leadership for the country.
He expressed hope that if given the opportunity, the presidential hopeful would look into the deplorable state of Nigerian roads especially those in Benue state, having traversed them for consultation.
Dr. Dankwambo while soliciting the support of Governor Ortom and Benue people to actualise his presidential ambition, said Nigeria had never experienced the kind of insecurity bedeviling it like it is currently happening under the APC-led federal government.
He said the disenchantment by Nigerians was an indication of a leadership gap, stressing that as someone who had served as Accountant General of the Federation to three Presidents and as Governor, he knows how government agenda were being formulated and implemented.
Dr. Dankwambo acknowledged Governor Ortom's boldness for leaving a ruling party for the opposition, adding that he had known the Governor to be a great man.He also acknowledged the support of Benue people to the Governor and urged them to continue in that spirit, stressing that he had no doubt in his mind that Governor Ortom means well for his people.More photos below.
