President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications, Office of The Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, under the theme, “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country”, the event showcased performances from across Nigeria and beyond, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to cultural diplomacy. Sir/Ma,
A CASE OF UNLAWFUL DETENTION

The matter concerns my son, Mr Mmaduabuchi Onuoha of the above address whom we (the entire family) have been looking for since the 2nd day of February 2022.
Mr Mmaduabuchi Onuoha on the said date went to visit his girlfriend, Miss Chinecherem Endurance Alozie (09031433271) from Umuoma Ogbe, Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State but resides at Mgbidi with her parents.
He went in the company of a female friend by the name of Miss Chinonso Martha from Umouofor Eze, Umuhuocha Obohia, Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State whose elder brother my son Mmaduabuchi works for.
On getting to Mgbidi where Chinecherem lives with her father, her father Mr Lawrence Alozie called the police from the Mgbidi Police Station on them with the allegation of my son kidnapping his daughter (Chinecherem).
My son Mmaduabuchi and Chinonso that accompanied him were arrested and taken to the Mgbidi Police Station.
When this information got to us, we went to the police station, the Mgbidi  Divisional Police Officer told us that they have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Criminal Investigation Department.
All efforts to get the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to tell us his whereabouts and when they are taking him to court proved abortive.
The police also went to his residence at Umuhuocha Obohia in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State and carted away his properties such as his TV set, generator, fridge, and foam and also confiscated his commercial bus and damaged his other 18-seater bus parked inside the compound.
All efforts to know where my son Mmaduabuchi Onuoha is have proved abortive. The family has gone to the state CID on several occasions with lawyers but they refused to give us any information as regards his whereabouts.
His name is not even in their log book or detainee’s book and they have not told us why that is. The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), one Mr Eberechukwu Nwosu has been dribbling us about where my son, Mr Mmaduabuchi Onuoha.
On the 25th of April 2022, we had to write to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 9 Command, Umuahia, Abia State asking for his intervention and our petition was received on the 10th of May, 2022 at the office of the AIG.
After waiting for about a month without any response from the AIG, we did a reminder on the 16th of June 2022 which was received and acknowledged on the 17th of June 2022 at the office of the AIG.
The case was finally assigned to one Mr Audu as the IPO. We have been following up and waiting for the case file and our son to be transferred to Zone 9 and nothing has happened.
The last information we got from the IPO is that the AIG directed that the temporary file opened for our son at Zone 9 be transferred to Owerri command for Owerri to continue with the case.
The IPO said he has been directed to hand off the case. This is after we have sold some parcels of land to raise money to pay the police as they always demand a huge amount of money at every stage from #100,000 and above. Even getting the petition approved cost us #200,000.00.
The IPO also informed us that his investigation revealed that our son had died in police custody. This explains why the AIG and the Imo State Commissioner of police want to cover up this crime.
When we informed the father of Mmaduabuchi what the IPO said, he had a heart attack immediately which led to a stroke and he eventually died on the 4th of August, 2022.
We the family of Mmaduabuchi humbly solicit the help of the human rights activists and all Nigerians to help us ask the AIG, Zone 9 Command Umuahia, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mgbidi Divisional Police Officer, IPO Eberechukwu Nwosu of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State CID, Mr Lawrence Alozie and his daughter Chinecherem Alozie and Chinoso Martha who accompanied him and was arrested along with him but later released to go home, the where about of our son Mr Mmaduabuchi Onuoha whether dead or alive and to help us make sure that Mmaduabuchi gets justice.
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Martina Onuoha (Mother)
