 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NSCDC LAGOS COMMAND ARRESTS TWO ( 2 ) SUSPECTS, RECOVERS TRUCK LOADED WITH AGO, STOPS ILLEGAL DEALERS FROM SYPHONING PETROLEUM PRODUCTS SUSPECTED TO BE STOLEN.


Within barely three weeks of resumption of the new State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, fdc, mpa, mnim, his new strategy and approach of anti - vandalism has continued to yield positive results, in the State without mincing words.


Therefore, in line with the renewed and re - invigorated efforts of the new State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, against oil pipeline vandalism, illegal dealings in petroleum products, economic sabotage and other forms of criminality, in Lagos State, the Corps has once again made another successful  arrest of two ( 2 ) persons suspected to be involved in illegal dealings in petroleum products, particularly, Automotive Gas Oil ( AGO ).


The two ( 2 ) aforementioned  suspects namely ; Muhammed Issah, male , 51yrs of age and 

Michael Adie, male, 28yrs , carrying yet unquantified suspected adulterated AGO, loaded in a Mercedez Benz short truck, with registration number T - 11957 LA, were intercepted along Ikate road, in the Lekki axis of the State, during a routine patrol of the Command's operatives at about 07 : 13hrs, on Tuesday, 7th February, 2023. 


In another operation, on Wednesday 8th February, 2023, at wee hours, the Corps' operatives also seized Premium Motor Spirit ( PMS ), wrapped in twenty ( 20 ) sacks ( white in colour ) suspected to be stolen and estimated to be about two thousand ( 2,000 ) litres in total at both Lekiti and Ganho creeks of Badagry, respectively, during their routine patrol and surveillance operations.


The State Commandant has ordered that the suspects and exhibits from both operations highlighted above be brought to the State Command Headquarters, in Alausa, Ikeja, for further interogation and investigation on the matters, being presently handled, by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the Command, in a bid to bring culprits to book.


Finally, CC Alfadarai also seized, the occasion of this operation, to further reiterate the Command's resolve and commitment to stamp out vandalism of all oil pipelines, illegal dealings in petroleum products and vandalism of other critical national assets belonging to the Government ( s ) in the State.
