 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Abuja was abuzz with excitement as the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, graced a special dinner held in honor of Senator George Akume. The occasion was organized to commemorate Senator Akume’s recent appointment as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

The prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja provided the perfect backdrop for the grand event, which saw the attendance of all the Governors from the North Central region. The distinguished guests included Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, Comr. Adams Oshiomole, Sen. Emmanuel Udende, and Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan, among many other notable figures from across the country.

The dinner served as a platform for Governor Alia and other esteemed dignitaries to express their congratulations and admiration for Senator Akume’s new role as SGF. The appointment is seen as a testament to his exceptional leadership qualities, dedication, and unwavering commitment to national development.

Notably, the presence of His Royal Majesty Orcivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse CFR, the Tor Tiv, added regal splendor to the occasion, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
