  Embattled Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau says he will resign after new party leader chosen Justin Trudeau has said he intends to step down after nine years as Canadian prime minister in the face of a mounting set of crises, leaving office once a new ruling party leader is chosen. “I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its new leader,” the 53-year-old leader told reporters at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday. “I care deeply about this country and I will always be motivated by what is in the best interests of Canadians. And the fact is, despite best efforts to work through it, parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority parliament in Canadian history,” he said, adding that the country’s parliament will be suspended until March 24 while a new leader is chosen.  Nasarawa Govt Donates ₦60m To Lafia Market Fire Victims

Nasarawa State Government has donated the sum of ₦60 million to the victims of recent fire outbreak that engulfed a section of Lafia Modern Market and destroyed properties worth millions of naira. 


Governor Abdullahi Sule announced the donation on Thursday at a meeting with a delegation of the state's Marketers' Association. 


The members of the Committee constituted to investigate the cause of the inferno were also part of the meeting held at the Government House, Lafia. 


Governor Sule who commiserated with the marketers over the devastating incident insisted that measures must be put in place to avoid reoccurrence. 


The Committee had earlier recommended the sum of ₦49 million to the State Government to support the fire victims.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
