 CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them.  US Vice President JD Vance to Attend Paris AI Summit


US Vice President JD Vance is set to participate in an artificial intelligence summit in Paris next week, according to a French diplomatic source on Tuesday.


The event, scheduled for February 10-11, will bring together top tech leaders and representatives from 80 nations, serving as a wake-up call for Europe as it navigates AI challenges posed by the United States and China.


Among the notable attendees are OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. It remains uncertain whether X owner Elon Musk, who leads the AI venture xAI, will accept his invitation.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will co-host the summit, with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expected to attend.


The event will take place at the Grand Palais, a historic venue built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
