Maddox Jolie, the eldest son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has reportedly taken formal steps to distance himself from his father by legally dropping “Pitt” from his surname.
The 24-year-old filed documents to change his full name to Maddox Chivan Jolie, citing personal reasons. He had already begun using “Jolie” professionally, as seen in the credits of his mother’s film Couture, where he worked as assistant director.
This marked a shift from his earlier credit in Jolie’s 2024 Netflix project Maria, where he was listed under the Jolie-Pitt name.
Brad Pitt’s relationship with his children has been strained since his 2016 split from Jolie, which involved allegations of abuse that he denied. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024 after years of legal battles.
Maddox, adopted by Jolie in 2002, is not the only child to distance themselves from Pitt. Vivienne, Zahara, and Shiloh have all publicly dropped the Pitt surname in recent years, with Shiloh even filing a legal request to change her name on her 18th birthday in May 2024.
These moves have highlighted the growing divide between Pitt and his children.
Sources have suggested that Pitt has been deeply affected by these decisions, describing him as upset and heartbroken over the reminders of his fractured relationship with his family.
Despite his love for his children, the repeated name changes underscore the ongoing tension and emotional fallout from his split with Jolie.
As Maddox and his siblings continue to assert their independence, the family dynamic remains a subject of public interest and speculation.
