Jennifer Garner says one of the most important values she hopes her children carry into adulthood is a sense of humor. In a candid conversation for Better Homes & Gardens, she explained that laughter has helped her navigate life’s challenges and she wants Violet, 20, Finn, 17, and Samuel, 13, to embrace humor as a tool for resilience and connection.
Alongside humor, Garner hopes her kids will always cherish books and music, which she believes bring joy and perspective. Away from acting, Garner finds comfort in caring for her family through cooking.
She described how homemade bread, cinnamon loaves, bagels, and French toast are staples in her household, creating simple but meaningful routines. For her, preparing meals and filling the home with music is a way to nurture her children and build lasting memories as they grow more independent.
Garner also reflected on her Los Angeles home, which she designed to be cozy and welcoming, with intimate spaces for conversation and togetherness.
Despite her success in Hollywood, she admitted that long filming days often make her feel like a visitor in her own house, leaving before her children wake and returning late at night.
Still, she treasures the moments she can spend at home, weaving humor, food, and family traditions into the foundation of her children’s lives.
