Witney Carson pregnant, making Dancing With the Stars history by returning as a pro dancer for season 35
Witney Carson is making history on “Dancing With the Stars” by returning as a professional dancer for the upcoming 35th season while pregnant.
Carson announced the news Monday, revealing that she will compete alongside Guillermo Rodriguez. She will become the first professional dancer in the show's history to begin a season knowing she is expecting a child.
The dancer has previously performed on the show while pregnant. She announced her pregnancy during the semifinals of season 31 in 2022. Fellow professional Daniella Karagach has also said she learned she was pregnant during that season, but Carson is the first pro to enter an entire season while already aware of her pregnancy.
Carson said she, her husband, Carson McAllister, and the show's casting director, Deena Katz, had extensive discussions before deciding she could continue as long as she and the baby remained healthy.
She said she will enter her second trimester next week, making this the latest stage of pregnancy at which she has ever danced or competed. Performing in dance costumes while pregnant will also be a new experience for her.
Carson said balancing work with pregnancy will be challenging but hopes her participation will inspire others and be embraced by viewers. She also considers the show an important part of providing for her family.
Carson and McAllister have two sons. The couple is now preparing to welcome another child while Carson returns to the ballroom.
The two-time Mirrorball Trophy winner claimed her most recent title last year with Robert Irwin. She previously won season 19 in 2014 with Alfonso Ribeiro, who now serves as a co-host of the series.
Season 35 of “Dancing With the Stars” will premiere over two nights, Sept. 15 and 16. The complete cast is scheduled to be announced Sept. 2.
