 ABU Vice-Chancellor Hosts 100 Students To Lunch, Urges Them To Look Beyond Certificates The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has hosted 100 students to a lunch, urging them to look beyond academic certificates and focus on creating value and making meaningful contributions to society. The students participated in the university’s Lunch with the Vice-Chancellor programme held at the weekend, where Prof. Ahmed interacted with the select group and discussed the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities awaiting them both within and beyond the university. The Vice-Chancellor said the university would sustain the annual programme because its greatest strength lies in its people. “A university is not only its buildings, laboratories, and lecture halls; it is, above all, its people,” he said. Sabalenka Survives Epic Noskova Battle To Reach US Open Semi-Finals


World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka survived a thrilling three-set battle against Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova to reach the US Open semi-finals.


The defending champion defeated the Czech sixth seed 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(10-7) in a dramatic quarter-final on Arthur Ashe Stadium.


Noskova pushed Sabalenka to the limit, firing 18 aces and recovering strongly after losing the opening-set tie-break 7-1.


Sabalenka also faced pressure in the deciding set, but fought back after falling behind and delivered when it mattered most in the final tie-break, sealing victory with an ace.


The win sends Sabalenka into the US Open semi-finals for a sixth consecutive year and keeps her hopes of winning the tournament for a third straight time alive. (Reuters)


Sabalenka will next face the winner of the all-American quarter-final between Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro.
