 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him.  A 78-year-old Georgia man lost his life and caused significant damage to a residential home in an unbelievable accident that has everyone wondering. How? Willie Smith Jr. was traveling near the intersection of Woodland Drive and Waverland Drive at approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27th when he lost control of his white Chevy Equinox.   Authorities believe Smith may have suffered some sort of medical emergency. There are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding this dramatic accident. What is known is that after losing control, Smith's vehicle left the roadway and ultimately crashed into the roof of a nearby home.  A Wisconsin man only received a citation after he tripped a 9-year-old child during a football game in a despicable display of pouting and poor sportsmanship. This absolutely disgusting example of poor conduct played out Saturday, August 22nd, in Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin.  During a Brew City League game between the Case Eagles and the Milwaukee Colts that was  being played at the J.I. Case High School football field, a 41-year-old man was caught on camera doing something pretty shocking for an adult to do.  As a 9-year-old player for the Case Eagles, rushed across the field, closing the distance for a beautiful touchdown, when suddenly his moment was shattered.  According to eyewitnesses, the 41-year-old man ran with full force and stuck out his leg, causing the child to come crashing hard to the ground. An Oklahoma baseball coach handed a beat-down to a man threatening his team with a kn*fe.  On August 16th, the Cameron High School baseball team was staying the night at a Shawnee, Oklahoma Hotel while traveling for games.  Coach Kevin Loman had ensured his team were settled into their overnight lodgings before retiring to his room.  While trying to relax and soak up some peace and quiet before another day wrangling 13 teenage boys, his personal cell phone lit up with a call. It was one of his boys on the team. Knowing that the duties of a high-school coach never end, Coach Loman quickly answered.  Military judge suppresses Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s FBI confession in 9/11 case A military judge has excluded a confession that alleged Sept. 11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gave to FBI agents nearly 20 years ago, ruling that the statements were not made voluntarily. The decision is a setback for the U.S. government's long-running effort to prosecute Mohammed, who is accused of helping develop the plot to hijack planes and crash them into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Mohammed remains detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, alongside other defendants awaiting trial. Lt. Col. Michael Schrama, the judge overseeing the case, scheduled a June 2028 trial for Mohammed and three other defendants earlier this week.
