Lt General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd) made this assertion in Abuja, while playing host to a delegation of “Buy Nija Promoters” that was led by the Hon. Minister of State, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment Hajiya Aisha Abubakar. The host Minister reiterated the need for defense and security institutions to buy uniforms, accoutrements and other operational materials manufactured in the country in order to encourage local entrepreneurship. He noted the existence of credible industrial establishments in the country with expertise in the manufacturing of security uniforms and hardware as no nation can advance its defense and security infrastructure without building indigenous competency in related industrial base.
Speaking further General Dambazau said the dwindling commodity prices globally has made it more expedient for a growing nation like Nigeria to be self reliant in providing basic logistic for its security personnel. He reassured of his willingness to encourage the security agencies under the Ministry of Interior to patronize Made in Nigeria products in order to derive more value for money and boosting the nation’s economy as well as saving foreign exchange.
He noted further that a proactive security framework is a catalyst for development, and that the Ministry of Interior and its agencies will key into the Federal Government’s Executive Order No 003 on Patronizing Made in Nigeria Products, with it attendant benefits of boosting economic growth, creating employment opportunities, while reducing youth restiveness and it attendant crime pull-factor to that part of Nigeria’s demography
The visiting Minister of State, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubarkar while thanking the host Minister for his commitment to support local entrepreneurship, said the strength of patronage of the Ministry and it agencies will make significant impact in the federal government’s drive to encourage the growth of Nigeria’s production capacity.
