 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. EMIR OF LAFIA URGES CITIZENS NOT TO SMEAR LEADERS FOR SELFISH INTEREST.{PHOTOS}.

    The Emir of Lafia, Dr Isah Mustapha-Agwai 1, has appealed to Nigerians not to smear or bring down those in positions of authority for personal interests, saying only God could give and take power.Mustapha-Agwai made the appeal when the IGP Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris visited him in his palace on Friday.It would be recalled that the police boss was in Lafia to inaugurate the State Police Command headquarters donated by Gov Tanko Al-makura.The Royal father noted that the two major religions preached against smearing one another's image, reputations or saying things about somebody without any proof."We should always remember the day of resurrection in our actions," he said.The emir who is also the Chairman, Nasarawa statehood Council of Chiefs expressed dismay at the attitude of those who would always allow themselves to be used by enemies of progress to ruin someone's reputation.The monarch also commended the IGP Idris for putting in place measures that have led to improved security and doused heightened tension in various parts of the country in recent months.According to the Emir, “the country is faced with some formidable security challenges, ranging from insurgency, militancy, kidnappings and armed robberies".The monarch, however, noted that with the diligence and commitment of the IGP, most of these challenges had been surmounted, while efforts were on to protect lives and properties of Nigeria.Mustapha-Agwai 1, tasked the police boss not to be complacent, urging that he should do everything humanly possible to ensure that the tempo is sustained.I enjoin you to continue with your good work of providing adequate security to Nigerians and not to be distracted with the activities of ungodly people in our mix",God Almighty gives and take power as such fear no one, discharge your duties effectively and efficiently and God will always be with you", the Royal father stated further.The Emir further said that IGP’s visit was a home coming and pledged to continue to assist and cooperate with Nigeria Police Force to ensure the success of his activities in fighting crime and criminality in the country.He said the IGP Idris's contribution in dousing the rate of crime in the state during his days as CP is highly commendable, saying he had contributed immensely in the peace unity the people of the state are now enjoying".He also called on him to accord top priority to the welfare and comfort of officers and men across the country.“Today God Almighty has entrusted you in to this position as number one police boss, don’t be selective in your dealings, fear no one except Allah, don’t use it to victimize any body and you will continue to see God’s hand in everything you do”, the royal father advised.“Try to ensure that you are transparent, incorruptible and unbiased in discharging your duties and responsibilities, Almighty Allah will not allow your enemies to pull you down”.Speaking earlier, IGP Idris underscored the role of traditional institutions in complementing the effort of security operatives in checkmating criminal activities.
The police boss said that the role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and unity in the country could not be over-emphasized and noted that the police force will not relent in partnering the institution.
According to him, “traditional rulers in the country have in no small measure supported and cooperated with the police and other security agencies which resulted in successes recorded in curbing criminal activities.
